Featured Buzzard Wood Carving Not High Art But Interesting Signed

Hi, I don't even know if this is considered art other than maybe folk art. I just found it to be an interesting piece and actually fairly well done. I can't make out the signature on the bottom but the line through the last letter makes me think it is European. I can't find anything similar or with similar design with the rock perch. I would appreciate any thoughts or help with the signature.

In Europe this bird would be called a vulture, so I think your charming carving was made in North America.

Our buzzard is a bird that sort of looks like a small eagle.
The first Europeans in North America didn't know much about birds, and they called the buzzards they saw 'hawks', which they aren't, but they called vultures 'buzzards'. They also made mistakes naming plants btw. They had other priorities.

 

I had totally forgot about this. My brother and I would roll on the floor laughing when it was on.

 

Yes, between that and the confusion with buzzards and vultures, trying to research this was a frustrating hoot.
