Butterfly pendant

    Hi all...I have had this for a while. maybe 25+ years..not sure where I got it.
    2" wide ..pale yellowish green ..minimal carved detail. On red rope with rosette and tassel. Back is identical to front. butterfly.JPG butterfly detail.JPG
    Any info appreciated, as usual. !! Material..what kind of stone? Age?

    Chinese, shaoshan stone probably. Silk thread

    I agree, Chinese. Serpentine of a type that is often called serpentine jade, but has nothing to do with jade.;)
    It is difficult to make out, but the rosette is actually an eternal knot, so symbolic for eternity.

    Shoushan stone is rare and about as expensive as nephrite jade, and like jade, the carving is usually highly detailed and exquisite.

    Thanks all.....will probably just list it..hoping someone needs a holiday gift.....key words..serpentine....silk thread..butterfly. eternal knot..China..sound good?

    I think it is a Chinese Chaoshan probably with a silk thread.

    It does. You could add long life and young love, as the butterfly is a symbol of both in Chinese culture.:)
    Shoushan stone is pale grey to yellow to butterscotch colour to dark red.:) And as I said above, it is pretty rare and valuable, which means it is only used for expensive objects.

    This amazing Shoushan stone has all the colours of Shoushan stone:

    Below is my favourite Shoushan colour. It is considered the 'King of Stones' and called Shoushan Tianhuang. Tianhuang means 'Heavenly Yellow'.
