Works great for our dried flowers. It's a gnarly old hunk of trunk with a hole drilled thru, the base sawed flat and it looks like it was lightly oiled once and has a patina. All wood,no other materials, no signature-works good.

Looks like root stock to me too.
The burning question tearing today's world apart is-Edo Period or 'Hippe w/ a Chainsaw' era ?

Looks like someone took a chainsaw to cut a cypress root from marshland (hence the darker wood colors).

    Two other possibilities.

As a base for a sculpture mounted on top. Or...

    Mounted as a specimen.

Yes Bosco, it looks like cypress to this Southern gal! Marshland Cypress due to the dark and light discoloration that's so attractive a patina! I believe Laura got the use down correctly, so that's your flower drilled holes! Now that she found the glass eagle, it looks like that was once a display holder for that or something very similar indeed!

Thanks for all the help.A true picture of a mystery object like this is often built one person's opinion at a time, and with team work-we usually solve things !
