    102E4867.JPG Good Morning America!
Last week, during an estate sale, I purchased a Sterling Silver and Abalone Shell Peacock (?) pin/brooch.
The brooch is marked Sterling Silver and has a side profile of a Bumble Bee? A Honey Bee? I don't know what it is.
It looks like an insect, Bee or otherwise, with wings.
If anyone recognizes the mark, I would appreciate any information.
It measures, approximately, 1 1/2" long and 1" wide.
    Thanks.
    P. S. I don't know why the images repeat. Apologies.

I know, I have several of their pieces (kiwi, fern leaf), but I am not in America.:bag:

The shell is paua, native to New Zealand (which is not in America).;)
And for those inside and outside America, the bird is not a peacock but a pīwakawaka, native to New Zealand (still not in America).

Question for your AJ, the sterling silver mark, is that the usual hallmark for New Zealand? Just wondering, as hallmarks keep changing.

I believe New Zealand is one of those countries that has no official assay office, so no standard mark.
It used to be that way for both Australia and New Zealand, but I am speaking of the 70s, when I lived in Oz.

KingofThings, Thank you for the information. Goebel/Hummel used a stylized Bee, within a V shape, as their mark. I've not ever seen a side profile of a Bumble Bee, before finding this Peacock brooch.
"I think : Therefore, I am." I "think" I butchered this quote. No pun intended. LOL.

It is made by G D Beatson in New Zealand, in the 1940's and '50's. The bee was his mark.

Also forgot to add that the bird is a New Zealand Fantail. The Maori name is Piwakawaka.

Thanks, that was already mentioned, but good to have confirmation, just in case anyone should still think it is a peacock.;)
