  1. Hello,
I picked this up in a car boot sale (prior to pandemic)and the seller knew nothing about it as they had bought it themselves in a car boot sale !

It is bronze, quite heavy, about 20 cm high by 25 cm wide

I was wondering if anybody might know the origin and approximate age,
    thanks DSC_0570.jpg DSC_0571.jpg DSC_0572.jpg

The shape is typical of India, and the decoration looks Islamic, with Arabic or Persian script inside the arches on the sides. So it might be described as Indo-Persian, originally coming from the region of Northern India/Pakistan/Persia.
Can we see the bottom please?

It is a beauty, Françoise. I agree with @2manybooks , the style is Indo-Persian. Probably made after Mughal rule though.
The Indo-Persian style can be found in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The bottom always tells a story.;) In this case you can see it has genuine age, it wasn't artificially aged.

Agree, probably North-West Indian, could have decent age. Looks a bit large for a lota, but likely for water.

I'm trying to figure out if that's writing on the side. If it is, it looks more Persian than Hindu.

In the Muslim regions of India the use of Arabic was common, hence Indo-Persian. The writing is a form of Arabic.

The bottom shows no center point that would have been left if the pot was spun on a lathe for shaping or decoration. That is a feature which supports some age for the vessel.
