I have a number of similar pieces, think mine are all brass and from India. Someone gave me good info on them on the eBay board a year or two ago. I'll see if I can find the thread or at least the info.

It was 6rivets who pointed me in the right direction for my figurines. She's a member here, but unfortunately I haven't seen her posting lately.

She told me that the figurine that I posted (the first one below)
was from India, and probably from the Dhokra tribe. According to wikipedia, their method of casting is called Dhokra as well.

My mother purchased the ones I have in the 1960s or 1970s. I think many were being imported to the U.S. at the time.

These are a couple of mine...

Could be Dhokra, will research a bit more. So, the creature, pure fantasy piece or based on a myth or legend?

    It's a horse, based on a tabloid journalist's description.

The tall one of mine is based on a myth, so yours may be, too. Could even be that yours and my horse one are based on the same myth?

When I checked last year, these types of items were selling nicely on eBay. At the moment, the market seems to have gone away.
