Picked this up at a yard sale today along with 70 rounds of 8mm Turkish 1939 ammo (all for 10 bucks) It looks like a pattern 1853 enfield but I cant decipher the markings. Daveys section on bayonets helped but trying to get more info. The bayonet is 25 inchs long or around 64 centemeters. Any help is appreciated! :cigar::cigar::cigar:

Yep first place I went, couldn't figure out the differences between the 1853 and the 1895 as this one has several overstamps. Hoping someone has more knowledge of the history of the British bayonets.

I'd email the Imperial War Museum. Helpful people.

I was just passing and saw this old thread, so just thought I'd chip in. British pattern 1895 for the Martini-Enfield, converted from a British 1876 pattern for the Martini-Henry. Between 1895 and 1902 some 86.000 of these were converted like this one at Enfield. The marks 12 '00 being the date of the conversion.

Do please stay around. (Are you a Civil War re-enactor, perchance?)

I'm afraid not, wrong side of the pond! However, I am getting a very unhealthy ( for my bank balance that is! :hungry::nailbiting:) interest in ACW. socket bayonets, and American socket bayonets in general.

Oops, sorry about that, I assumed you meant the other side of the pond! My bad.:shy:

No, I am not an ECW reenactor, but I am extremely interested in the era!:)
