Brightly woven yarn thing

    I think I have seen these before, just can't remember. It is woven over wood pieces or something, I have no idea what these are called .
    Any ideas ?

    It is a coiled basket, wool yarn over indeterminate fiber core. Perhaps African, but the shape and materials are not typical. There is a chance it is the product of a hobbyist. I will keep looking.

    Perhaps a small tourist version of an Ethiopian basket used to hold a tray of food:
