Brass Wax Stamp "West African Reg/Red?" Meaning plus looking for age

    This piece recently came into the store and we are trying to get some information on it. It appears to say "West African Reg" or possibly "Red" at the bottom (see last 2 pictures showing mirror image / what it would look like stamped into wax). Maybe "Reg" - name of user? It looks like it has some real age on it - does anyone have any idea when it would date to?
    It measures slightly over 3-1/4 inches in length and weighs 190 grams, looking to be constructed of brass with an aged patina. I did not find any manufacturer or other identifying marks on it.

    Looks like it was die stamped,probably a fair number of them made.

    Thank you! "West African Regiment" is the key - I see other items with similar or identical design, but haven't seen another stamp like this anyplace. Looks like it should be a nice military collectible.
