Hi everyone. Can anyone give me info on this tray? There are no marks on the back, only a hanger. It looks like brass and has writing. I'm trying not to freak out as I'm finding similar ones worth several thousand dollars. Thanks!

Photos are hard to compare with most objects.Your's looks like a $200 street vendor's piece compared to a $2500 Master's work.

    Size?

The multi-toned trays started showing up in about 3rd qtr
20th C. I'm guessing it would be very hard to get $100. For it but I haven't checked "sold" prices. Don't estimate using asking prices, use only prices actually realized on "sold" items.

    Welcome to the forum!

What writing? I don't see any writing on the front of tray, but them my eyesight certainly isn't great.

There's an Arabic inscription between about 5 and 7 o'clock on the edge on the circle in the center.

My parents (and I, at age 12) visited the Middle East around 1960, and brass trays, or brass trays plated in various ways, were very common souvenir/tourist items. We brought several home. Often sold alongside three-legged or six-legged folding stands.
In all diameters, from tiny 4" ones to large 3' or 4' and often marked "made in Persia" which is what we know as Iran today. The decoration, engraving or chasing or whatever you would call it, was not generally of very high quality, and they were being sold for only a few dollars; probably selling for $50-100 now.

Take the tray to the nearest mosque if it has a section for your sex. Take shoes off if others in that section have done so. Ask if someone can translate the inscription. Worked for me anyway.

I asked an Iranian friend to look at the inscription after a Pakistani friend said it looked like Farsi. Iranian lady was able to read the words but said they didn't make sense as arranged. She read the words

    Isfahan (a city)
    Love
Hafez (famous 14th C. Persian poet)
    Poetry

That's all she got out of it.
