Hello! I'm not a collector but I'm interested in antiques. These pictures from the Internet. I'm tormented by the question — where did this cat face come from? I meet it in different items — vanity jars (mostly), tape measures, vesta cases and even one soap case, one travel inkwell with celluloid cat face and one button. It's obvious that this mold initially had one author. But who and what the country? I have many of these pictures, I think I have found and saved all cat face pictures I could find.

It's too easy! I think it is some German or Austrian author. Almost all of these items are unmarked and sellers possibly only assume that these items are German or Austrian. But I think the same. The only one item has a mark - this vanity box. It is England, 1911. In my opinion there is one unknown author of this cat face and other smiths from different countries had copied this mold. Possibly this mold was popular.

The first item with this cat face mold I've seen was a vanity jar. Then I've seen a tape measure and a purse. These lots were open. And it was several years ago. Then I've started wide searching for these cat faces in Google purposefully and have found some closed lots. Now there are no open lots except this one with damaged nose. So sad.
