Hi all. New to the forum, so please forgive me if I break protocol. I just bought this little item at the Phila Flea Market and was wondering if anyone knows its purpose. The seller thinks it was part of a war trophy/memorabilia. It is solid brass, weighs about 4-5 lbs, stands 3 1/2" and the base is 2 1/4" in dia. The canon is bored and the whole underneath the base is threaded.
    Thanks much!

You are right, Gila, and I will have to ask the bishop about a bored Canon.

Does the breech part unscre or have a touch hole?

It's one solid piece. I agree that it was designed to be fired because it has a fuse hole. Thanks

the breech part does not unscrews, but I just realized that the cannon unscrews from the stand.

Have little doubt that it would fire ...just not sure what it screws onto..ships rail??? the base and the threading looks very solid..can't wait for Springfield to come and solve this mystery!

lol..almost looks like a harpoon cannon...but would need to be a tiny whale (and I'm against that anyway)

There's a cane handle tradition known as a "cheroot" where a metal cannon like that is used. I'm sure there's something about it on web but am tied up tonite.
