Is this African? If so - any specific area? Age? Looks like the pieces were probably sand cast? Hadn't seen one like this so I picked it up for almost nothing. Conversation piece if nothing else. I think There was a 5th fellow on the back side that has broken off at some point - the remnants of his feet are still there I think. Stands about 6 inches high total (15cm).

    Thanks for looking!

Yes - as many eyes and opinions as possible is best. Googling around a bit though with this as a lead - it does look very similar to other Asante brass castings - goldweight castings and others.

Gorgeous, Aaron. SAnd yes, it is very much related to the later Ashanti goldweights.
My response is: absolutely right. Ashanti (Asante), or more generally Akan, and a king with musicians heralding his arrival. The umbrella bearer couldn't handle the workload.

Ashanti kuduo vessel seems to bring them up.

Indeed - now that I know what I'm looking for - I might luck out and find the jar/pot at the thrift store!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The thrift stores near you must be amazing! You find some great things.

I'd hesitate to call them amazing but I visit enough of them often enough to hit on something good fairly regularly. There's about 7 or 8 that I hit up each twice a week - normally. There are other pickers who hit most of the same ones that I'm pretty sure hit them up just about every day. I'm amazed there's anything left for me! :) I work/live in a very diverse area (suburbs of Washington DC) culturally - so I think I tend to find some things you wouldn't find in areas that are less so diverse.
