Former neighbor was selling these at a garage sale, he said he found them up in (I think he said at a dump dig.)

Are any worth taking a second look at? All unmarked except "DC Fonda, Boulder, Colo." (see 2nd photo) and "Baumann's Arcanum, Liniment patented, Augst 13, 1867." (center photo 1)

Also wondering if someone could address the sort of shiny iridescent look on many. Also general info much appreciated! Thanks.

    Wow! Thanks, Brad!

What about the condition of mine though -- that Ebay sold one was shiny clear. Mine does not seem to have any chips which is great, but it is cloudy and the stopper seems a bit stuck -- I'm inclined to just sell as is?

I am not a bottle collector or seller so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. I imagine a pristine clear bottle will bring a premium but there is something about old dug bottles with iridescence that some find appealing. I personally like your bottle more than the pristine one. I would leave it as is and see how it does.

    Great find Lucille,
I agree with Brad, leave as is and it would do well I think. Especially with the original stopper intact.

    Thanks for the Kudo Greg:happy:.

I saw this yesterday but just didn't have much time.
I think it's been pretty well pinned down by Brad at this point.

I was a little surprised to see the prices in the links. This must be a fairly desirable Hutch to the local and regional collectors. Most east coast hutches sell in the 5 to 20 dollar range but a rare "local" can often bring several times that. Western hutches are scarcer and more sought.

ANY territorial Hutch is serious money. (Just a tip;))

The original stopper, in this case, is not a particular plus. They're found with intact stoppers all the time.

You know it's a genuine antique because Hutchinson stoppers were outlawed by the food and drug act of 1906.

I would wash it out but the iridescence will not come out. This could be pro cleaned but cost prohibitive. Let the buyer get it done. The value is surely impacted but I think it will still preform fairly strongly. Cracks and chips have a far more negative effect. Like I said, this can be fixed if desired. Chips and cracks are forever.

As for the others, the patent medicine is a great example of a 19th. century quack medicine, circa 1885. It's blown in a mold with an applied and tooled lip. Unfortunately it's fairly common. Top right looks like a very late hand blown cosmetic or flavoring bottle circa 1900-1905, VERY common. Middle left, machine made ink, circa 1920, very common. Middle right cement/mucilage, circa 1920, very common. Bottom, ketchup circa same. VC.

In other words, ya got one outta seven but that's OK. That one is a very cool piece...and the med is kinda cool to.

Thanks Brad, Bulldogs, Greg and Skeezix.

Yes, I was also secretly hoping Skeezix would take a look. :watching: Thanks!

Great information here. I appreciate the help! Will definitely be listing the hutch at some point, maybe I'll try the med also, both are free of chips or cracks.

Thank you for sharing your expertise.
