I found this yesterday at a thrift store. It's a copy of a Botero & signed Remington.
I've seen Remington before on another painting like this, but when I google Remington all I find is Frederick the western artist.
And when I tried a google image search all I got was photos of the original Botero.
Can someone tell me about this artist?
If I wanted to sell this on eBay how would I word the title - School of Botero?
    Thanks for any information.

You can only say that if you have proof that 'Remington' has such a link with Botero. Instead of, say, China.:nailbiting:

I was able to find several websites where you can buy a Botero copy.

If i stumbled onto a painting like that on ebay with Botero anywhere in the listing I would report it as keyword spam.

IMO all you can say legally say is Artist Inspired Fat People Man Fedora Painting signed Remington

Why don't you start by doing a Google Images search to see if it's a copy of a specific Botero?

It’s been used on an exhibition poster for the Marlborough Gallery.

Thank you. So it's a copy of Botero's 1983 painting 'The National Holiday' and you should be able to sell it as such.

Now look at this (please.) A really good example of art-with-a-capital-A versus factory art. I go on and on about minimum effort with maximum impact and you can see how it's achieved by this quick comparison.

So can you sell a copy on ebay these days using the original artist's name? Not keyword spamming?

Obviously I haven't listed on ebay for awhile.

I don't know what eBay's current policy is but... On the site, there are 40 current listings for "Botero" and "repro."

Absolutely it’s keyword spam and not allowed which isn’t to say that people don’t abuse this rule all day long. As I said, I would report it if I found it. It is completely legal to sell the painting but it is not OK to use the title of the piece or the artist’s name.

That doesn’t make it OK. Doing so is against ebay policy.

Every seller will make their own choices but I believe this board should never encourage people do list against policy.

Anyone interested in selling artwork reproductions will want to read eBay's policy directly and in full. Here's a quick screen shot.

Again, I’d report as keyword spam IF I found it in a search and this piece is not exact.

“If it doesn’t violate etc.” That painting is a replica but it is not an exact replica.

You're going to be busy today reporting all those other listings of which you are now aware.

I once got reported for using the term "eames era". My listing was pulled, but when I searched the term, I found 5000 other items using it. Somehow, they didn't get touched. Makes you wonder about the true dedication of the reporter.

I didn’t say I was looking for it or would report it unless I found it during my own searches. When I am looking for something and I find keyword spam I always report. I think it’s wrong and gives unfair advantage to people selling junk that can’t keyword their item on their own. It’s a constant problem with spam on Native American items and I do report those although I don’t specifically look for them.

I'll say. There are currently 5,650 in the Art category using the word "repro." And 1,342 using the word "copy."
