Inspired by journey's 'Remington Botero', I ended up in this fun article which shows Fernando Botero's remakes of some classic paintings, along with the originals, and thought you might enjoy it too:

This is my favourite, Botero's take on Rubens and his wife:

Not a remake but... I rather like his warts and all 'Self-Portrait with Flag.'

    :hilarious:
Is that from his Louis XIV portrait? Which is also brilliant.

No, I just checked, he is fully clothed on that. I'll see if I can post it.

Botero has a wonderful sense of humor. I'll bet there's a back story to the man on the side (instead of a man in the picture on the original?). It's interesting that he changed the "royal red" satin backdrop to powder blue, and remade the flooring.

AJ, is there a descriptive style label to this sort of caricature remake art?

(I also cannot remember what the outsider label is for the artists who remake paint by number and classic print art by adding collage portions and/or repainting.)

"Boterismo", though I don't know if that extends beyond Botero.

Beryl Cook has a somewhat similar take, but I'd give the edge to Botero.
