I've gone through more books today, and plan on donating the ones below, which are all softcovers. First come, first served.

    1. With Kennedy, Pierre Salinger
    2. Portnoy's Complaint, Philip Roth
    3. You Are Not the Target, Laura Archera Huxley
    4. Future Shock, Alvin Toffler

    5. The Greek Experience, C. M. Bowra
    6. The Origin, Irving Stone
    7. Butterfield 8, John O'Hara
    8. Some Limericks, Norman Douglas (a slim volume of risque limericks with commentary)

    9. The Coup, John Updike
    10. I, Etcetera, Susan Sontag
    11. Heaven Help Us, Herbert Tarr

    Any takers?

@Pat Parker - You are so kind to offer your excess books for postage cost. I am in the process of trying to unload good books too, but I just wanted to thank you.

I have three hardcopy books to add to the list, with dust jackets but none are first printings:

    12. Games People Play, Eric Berne
    13. Our Gang, Philip Roth
    14. The New Century Handbook of English Literature, Clarence Barnhart

Pat Parker, I am intrigued by No. 14, The New Century Handbook of English Literature, Clarence Barnhart.

I, too, have a "The New Century" book. Mine is entitled "The New Century Perfect Speaker (A Complete Encyclopedia of Elocution, Oratory, and Etiquette), edited and copyrighted, 1901, by John Coulter."

Is your book easily accessible so that you can see when and by whom it was copyrighted?

I don't know if others will remember, but several months ago at "the other place" when there was a question regarding mourning clothing I quoted extensively from my book.

Thanks in advance if you can, but no problem if you can't. As I said, I'm intrigued by another "New Century" book.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I'm interested in #5, Bowra's The Greek Experience. Another one to add to my reference library. -- Yes, I shouldn't be adding any more books right now. I'll send you my address in a message.

    Yourturn, here's the publication info:

    Publisher: Appleton-Century-Crofts, Inc., NY
Copyright date: 1956 (appears to be the first edition)

It's a big book, with 1,167 pages... lots to read! Oh, and it still has it's dust jacket, though the spine of the DJ is gone. Your book sounds like it probably gives a great glimpse into what was considered proper in the early 1900s.

Fig, great, I'll send it on to you and will send you a message tomorrow about the postage. I so know what you mean. I bought a few books over the past year and have barely looked at them yet.

I'm so glad to have people interested in some of the books!

Pat Parker, thank you for the information on your "New Century" book. At 1,167 pages, I believe I had better let someone else read it. "Dust bunnies" would be past my knees if I became engrossed in that book.

Yourturn, The New Century Handbook of English Literature was intended to be used as a reference book, which means that you wouldn't need to read it all... just dip into it when you feel like it. Reference books are nice to have around the house.

Figtree, thank you for the information on the book being a reference book. I think I'll still pass on it. I'm certain another person can make use of it and enjoy it more than I might.

Figtree, "Off Topic" but wanted to thank you once more for the information you shared "over there" in early August a year ago. I thought about starting a "thank you" thread in your honor but didn't want to take a chance on embarrassing you. The final paperwork came through this past Saturday from the USPM at SI. It was a "gift" donation and the SI letter says the proper IRS papers have been filed (which strikes me as funny because I paid the grand sum of seventy-five cents for it). I am so pleased that it is located at what hopefully is its final destination.

I think we're all set here, and I'll be donating these books soon, other than the one I sent to Fig.

    Thanks!
