Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I'm just trying to learn and remember here, but didn't someone say that tons of that tiny crazing is frequently indicative of more modern Chinese reproduction???

Not necessarily but in this case I think yes. The decoration and shape don't look older Chinese to me. The decoration is a little slapdash and the cone shape doesn't sit right. If it's older it really shouldn't look like a modern oil bottle shape. I'm sure there are other discrepancies as well but those are the first that come to my mind. The crazing does seem forced. It is smaller and more even than I would expect. Most pieces I see with unintentional crazing do not have such uniform (or clean) crazing. In older pieces often time stains have crept under the crazing and in really bad places it even starts to flake.

Rather for the same reasons I don't think it's Dutch. I'm certainly not an expert on Dutch pottery but I've never seen Dutch craze quite like that. I suspect the piece above is relatively new Chinese production meant to resemble older export ware. It's not a bad piece and I don't think it was meant to deceive. Just a pretty decorative item.

I wish I could give you a rule on the crazing, Aquitaine, but tiny crazing raises at least a yellow flag to me that the piece is not old. I just don't have enough experience to say if it's always true. JMHO.
