I don't feel like this is a Thomas Mott brooch... or is it?

Hard to tell without seeing it up close, but it looks like it could be butterfly wing.

    Ditto.

Does it have the Thomas Mott mark? I can't see the back very well, the photos are very small. The mark is TLM or TL Mott. Sometimes with 'England'.
They did make butterfly wing jewellery.

Definitely butterfly wing. Nice old one.

Antique Morpho Butterfly Wing sterling silver brooch stamped HWK.

Henry William King was a highly regarded Victorian silversmith and maker of fine jewelry. His company, Silverdale Works, was located on Charterhouse Street in London. In the early 1900’s, his workshop was taken over by Thomas L. Mott.

Thank you so much for the insights here... the seller didn't mention butterfly wing, but it looked very similar to the other one I just bought.

I am. It is a beauty, and I think I just saw one like it on Etsy. Can't find it now of course, but maybe someone else will.

She didn't accept my offer but she's asking £30 as a fixed price. I will go for it. Thank you.

It's a glass sulphide (or imitating one, if plaster) on top of the butterfly wing. There are a lot of variations of these and they're very pretty. In many the wing sometimes loses areas of color so this is quite a nice one as it's mostly vibrant. The seller is asking for what is a typical price.

That's a fair price for it. It's unsual for the butterfly wing not to be all browned and oxidized.

It is indeed Brazilian morpho butterfly wing. Strictly speaking, Mott didn’t make the whole thing, nor did other makers. The plaques were produced in Brazil then imported here to be set in whatever.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Good find for identification, @Aznathalie .

I have a pin with the same angel design, but the background is different. Sort of a golden foil-looking pattern. No time to take a photo now, but will look at it more carefully later.
