Blown glass hobnail perfume or small decanter... sun purple or flashed?

    from that last image of the bottom, I'd say the glass has a applied amethyst stain. Looks to be Duncan & Miller #118 hobnail

    Hi,
    I agree it is "stained" flashed means it was covered with another color glass.

    Sun purpled would be throughout the glass, not only the surface like stain :)

    yes that is what I thought, I was told the sun could do that, but that seemed just off to me. ;)

    The sun reacts with a chemical in the glass, I can't remember which, manganese maybe? Anyway, that's what turns it purple.

    it's manganese in glass that causes it to 'sun-purple' over an extended time. Sun-purpling is a very light compared to the dark amethyst that is the result of artificial gamma irradiation used in food service to kill microorganisms.
