Was this a common type of a card?

Lilacs and anchors. Not what we think of Christmas imagery nowadays!

Sort of like a blank card today where you write whatever you want to say inside. But maybe back then you get an insert appropriate to the holiday or occasion and add it to the cover.

Seller has it about right. I have a little stash of vintage/antique Christmas cards that were saved by the owner of a travel lap desk I bought. They range in date from 1906 to 1936. None have anchors, but lots of flowers, few winter scenes, most of them the little booklet type, although none with this many pages. Several have the cord embellishment & several more have ribbon. Was surprised to see that most had the sender's name preprinted. In one case 'Grandpa' was penciled in after the formal name.

My Great Grand and Grandmother saved dozens of their cards - circa 1890-1940... and many are themes that we don't think of for the "Holidays". I'd share some; but my sister ended up with all of them... :(

I like the art nouveau touches. Much nicer than what we have today, imho.
