Don't know anything about the pottery, but when the crotch is so carefully covered that way, you can bet it is a boy.

Is that a mark on the back, brown part bottom right?

What keen eyesight you have, anunderfaufen! Never notice before. Does look like letters but can't really read it. Could it be German Heubach? Could they have made something like this?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Middle letter looks like a P, and that might be followed by an L. That's all I can make out...

Am wondering if it might say Erphila. That would have the p and the l. Interesting that the base is glazed on the top but the rest is not glazed.

Hi Kathy - Is it possible you can get a better photo of the area where the mark might be? My old eyes just don't see that well anymore. I'm a bit reluctant to attribute it to Erphila. It just doesn't look like Erphila to me. For some reason I'm getting more of a French vibe. Maybe it's the face on the child. I think if I was going to label it for sale I might try Old Paris style. Take a look at Old Paris porcelain and see what you think.
