Featured Best way to care for antique wood railing

Hello! Our house has some salvaged probably turn-of-the-century wood railing. Are used a diluted oil soap on it and noticed that a lot of it is so dry. We don’t want them really shiny as all the house is a rust cut type lumber. What do you recommend doing to help? it seems like they need moisture..

If the wood seems really dry and you don't want it to absorb water, using a thick bristled dry bush might be good to to remove old crud & dirt - then a softer brush or vacuum to remove dust, etc. Most old wood needs a mineral oil based product applied - old wood soaks it up - I've use 'Howard's Feed & Wax', which is oil and wax mixed... it really helps old wood -

You can also use Howard's Restor-A-Finish first if you want to cover scratches or add a little color. Then apply the Feed & Wax.
