Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Good friend's 90 y/o mother was give by her father back in the 1930s or 40s.....and he had it no one knows how long before that! Not sure how old that's saying the pin is.....it's about the size of a nickel.....It's not my image & when I tried to sharpen it, it kind of distorted the image, so I put it back to original!! But my friend's husband got a GOOD image of the back of the pin which looks like it says J.E & C with some tiny marks after the C. Any suggestions or offers of input would be greatly appreciated, and Thank You SO MUCH!!! BTW, it does look like 4 bees facing a little floral arrangement in the middle to me?? I know it looks like fabric....but it's definitely NOT!

Appears to have a hinge on the back so it may be a locket Try opening it to see what’s inside!

The hinge is part of the pin…..it was opened so it was out of the way for the picture of the stamp on the back…..and they are the only images I got…….. but an interesting thought just the same!!! The bees…..that was just MY guess…….!

Bees and forget me nots, very typical of Victorian sentimental jewellery. The plaque is Italian, setting probably British. J E & Co. We imported plaques like mad.

Might be gold. 1860s to 80s ish. Lovely work. Bees can be loyalty, that sort of thing. True micro mosaic.

You're very welcome, it's a lovely little thing. Very Grand Tour. It could do with a gentle clean, but you need someone who really knows what they're doing.

If it were mine, I would brush it very gently with an old fine paint brush or make up brush. Then, I'd use a cotton bud, Q tip to you, wet it and sort of roll it carefully over the surface to take muck off. Don't laugh, saliva also works well. you can also use spray window cleaner on said cotton bud, wiping it off after with a water damped one. The back, I'd use a sunshine cloth on. Not the front, you might dislodge tesserae.

Gee thanks Komo!!! Thankfully I think that's a cute little house mouse nibbling on an orange!!!! He's sitting down on a shelf with some others.....image from way back when I posted the group of them....Corn made in England, Banana & Orange made in Scotland! Cute little fellas....and they don't eat anything!!! I love the detail!! Unfortunately there was some damage to one of one's ears....that I glued back together!
