Bed and Armoire 1890

Good Evening,

I am looking for more information on a woven wire bed and matching puzzle construction armoire believed to be from the 1890s. I have attached the best pictures I have at this time.

Thanks in advance and I wish I had more information to give, but I am willing to search high and low to answer any questions you may have on these pieces.

Never seen anything quite like this. Obviously, made in St. Louis (just east of my present location)

St. Louis was (and still is, to an extent) an industrial center, so not surprising that somebody was looking for a use for some extra wire. Looks like it was intended to take the place of box springs? How did that work out?

Anyway, an Eastlake-style set ca. 1890, walnut. Interesting stuff!!

 

Thanks @Ghopper1924, my question exactly.....NEVER before seen any wire mesh used like that either!!!! But the top of the bed & top of the armoire somewhat match!!

 

Have seen lots of beds with wire mesh decking. Equivalent of a box-spring.

 

That's what I figured. Still, it was new to me.

One of the fun things about Victorian stuff is that there is always something unique around the corner. Year after year, I'm quickly corrected just when I think I've seen it all.
