Found this ring for $35 over scrap earlier today. It is a beautiful looking ring and is definitely Victorian in style. Perhaps 1870s? Any way to tell? Also, I am trying to figure out if the ring is original as in the setting? It is such a unique construction.... the diamond is for sure mine cut. Input?

It is wonderful and very unique...I will have to do some work to tell you anything about what you would really like to know, however.:bookworm:

This set is from Mallams, UK. The catalog was a million pages and I could not figure out how to send the link. But here is the description:
A VICTORIAN SUITE OF JEWELLERY, comprising a hinged oval bangle, a pendant and a pair of ear pendants, each decorated with oval and circular bosses framed by scrolling foliage and flowerheads, with applied rope twist wirework and bead borders, the pendant with glazed verso, on a gilt faceted belcher-link chain, the ear pendants on screw-back fittings stamped ‘9ct’, bangle inner diameter 5.8cm, pendant length 6.6cm, ear pendant length 4.5cm (3) £300-500 (plus 24% BP*)

I actually thought better of sending it because I know it is nothing like yours...but I obviously missed the WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY...perhaps it can be of some value to you. Enjoy? :shy:

Wow! Great find! I think you're correct about age. The diamond looks like Old Mine.
I think it's all original. The mysterious holes on either side may have been for 2 more optional gems.
The construction reminds me of a beautiful piece of Eastlake furniture!

It is gorgeous, spart, great find!
Slightly later imo. 1880s, with that open construction. In the 1870s rings were more 'solid' looking. This one can breathe, so to speak. That started in the Aesthetic period.

Thanks everyone! It definitely is Victorian Aesthetic style. I am just surprised a ring constructed this delicately has remained is such good condition!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Are the other two stones opals? Moonstones? Glass? Or something else?

    Just curious...
