Thanks in advance for any recognition or direction on this 5" wide and 4" tall basket.

Based on the twining technique, which appears to use small bundles of grass/fibers (milulu grass), the rim finish, and the design, it looks like an Iringa basket. These are made by the Hehe people, in the area around Iringa, in southern Tanzania.

Here's this weekend's basket question: I think this 7" x 2" basket is Moroccan, as its design matches some of the grass baskets I have seen from there, but maybe this one is palm fiber. I'm hoping experts can add their thoughts.

The skill and execution is excellent imho, no matter where it's from.

Very nice. I don't know the origin off hand. You might get more response if you start a separate thread for it.

I would say Moroccan, based on the distinctive purple and gold (although that may be a result of the photo not showing the true colors) triangular shapes, found on most bread baskets from Morocco.

However, I have never seen that plaited rim finish on any baskets from Morocco. That technique is usually seen on baskets from eastern Africa, especially from Ethiopia. Moroccan baskets with the triangular shapes typically have a false braided herringbone rim.

More importantly, the material appears to be different from the Moroccan bread baskets. So I would hesitate to say exactly where this is from. But more likely eastern Africa, than western Africa.
