IMG_4628.JPG IMG_4629.JPG Looks like by an amateur but wonder who the players might be?

Looks like a very close call. Perhaps copying a photograph of some important play? The player with the ball is from Detroit, but I can't see enough of the printing on the back of the slider to know.

Relatively modern day, with the batting helmet.

As Bakers has said: Relatively modern day, with the batting helmet.

As far as I know (My Dad was a huge baseball fan. Me? Not so much...) batting helmets have been around since the 1950's, but the style shown is a bit later.

Umpires, however, stopped wearing jackets like that - and ties - sometime in the late 1970's or early 1980's, if I recall correctly.

At least that may offer some sort of time range for the scene in the painting.

    Good for you SBSVC!

According to Wikipe... , of course Wikipe... is always accurate , they substantiate SBSVC dating of "1970's or early 1980s" as the **latest** date:

"In the 1960s umpires were allowed to wear dress shirts that were light blue, and the American League umpires wore grey slacks with their blue coats, while National League umpires wore all blue coats and slacks"

"The use of ties with the blazers were gradually phased out; the last time they were worn in the World Series was in 1975 and overall was in the 1979 Major League Baseball All-Star Game by George Maloney. In World Series games starting in 1976 the umpires wore sweaters (light blue for National League umpires and off-white for American League umpires) instead of ties."

Sooo I guess the time frame would be c1960 to 1970s? With that narrow necktie I would lean towards the 1960s. By the 1970s ties were wider.

That's a Detroit Tigers logo so maybe it was a play from a famous game. The guy sliding in almost looks like it says Padres on the back of his jersey.

That would have to be the players last name though. The team name is generally on the front of the jersey with the players last name on the back.
