Featured Barry Island Postcard Booklet Brooch

    I had to give this little pin its own thread because its just adorable. I've not seen one like this but I assume these are more common than my experience guesses! :hilarious:

    Barry Island bow pin with a little red book attached. If you open the book out pops a bunch of postcards! Such fun.

    Am I correct to try and date it by the postcards? I couldn't find any exact matches but ones similar in style/coloring date to the late 30s. The red 'leather' is also similar to a 1938 souvenier wallet.

    They went on a while, yours might be fifties. I do like these.

    I think it's later too. I think those are miniatures of full-sized postcards. You may be able to date from the originals.

    I see a fair few of these with assorted covers, including brass or pot metal. From the images, some seem to go back to the early twentieth, when holidays for working class people started to be a thing.

    You know... Those could be colorized, vintage photographs. That would explain why no cars.

    Not many people owned cars here in the fifties, even. And somewhere like Barry Island, there's hardly have been any.
