Barrette hair clip help please..TIA.

Barrettes and hair clips aren't something I normally have but this one caught my eye.
Very large at 5" in length x 3+1/4" wide.
Glass rhinestones are prongset and the dangle chains make me think 'vintage'.
Marked 'Made in France' but I am pretty sure that just applies to the clip mechanism.
So...thought on age ? Disco 70's...blingy 80's...newer ?

This sort of unusual with those cylinder pieces and the dangles...all I can think of is the tangle potential though!

 

I can't say that I've ever seen anything like this. Maybe irrelevant, but I used to buy (then new) fancy hairclips in the 80's, plastic and loaded with rhinestones, etc. They had a bit of a "1940's revival" feel to them, and the best ones were marked "France" in the back. But don't recall seeing any with the dangles.

 

The dangling style recalls the 1920s, but this is obviously newer........sorry I can't be of any real assistance!

 

I'm leaning towards 1980's but I may be way off base.

That thing would be a nightmare as far as catching and pulling hairs.
Of course, what price beauty?

Any chance it could have clipped on to ANYTHING other than hair????

 

I still have a few around. Definitely 80s. The dangly bits may explain why this one survived so well; it tangled one time too many and was shelved in favor of less painful clips.

 

80s is my idea too. I probably would have worn it in the 80s.

This was purported to be 20s Deco... made me think of what Manson said about recalling the 20s.

 

I think it's great, and would probably convert it into a pin. There was a strong Art Deco 'revival' in the mid-late 80s; I still wear these sterling & onyx brooches from back then, bought around 1987/88.
