    Chris Mount Getting there

Picked up this silver bowl a while ago. I don't usually buy silver plated stuff but this pattern interested me as its quite detailed. I googled the name found some details but was hoping to find out what the number in the rectangle is. I gather its plated because thats what Google said. Are these types of bowls with a lot of detail collectible at all. Chris 15039154714411.jpg 15039154557980.jpg 15039154869272.jpg 15039154980473.jpg

These were pretty common in the 1950's. It probably had a round glass insert and sometimes found with a dome cover. Mostly used as butter dishes.

Yes, Chris, it is silver plated. I couldn't find any examples of their marks with that rectangle, but given the rest of the mark and the style of the bowl, I'd say post WW2 and quite possibly well past the war's end - like 60's. Most of the company's production that we see in the US is from their US branch (the order of the names reversed to Ellis-Barker) and much earlier in the 20th century. Perhaps one of our British members will chime in on the rectangle.

While the design inside is attractive (and rather more detailed than many of that age) I doubt that the general category is in enough demand to qualify as "collectible." Around here, things like this go begging at any price in any venue. You seem to like it a lot and that's a good thing. Use it in good health.
