Ball Spire Finial

    I tend to think of a finial as a decorative item atop something...but this (an' its near-double in the link below) seems to be intended to hang. As the link is for a clock part, I can perhaps see it as a weight to move an escapement...but the hole at the end isn't threaded, an' the wee hole on the side beneath that one is a puzzle.
    It is ~3 3/4" long, ~1 5/8" major diameter; it weighs ~7 ounces. Are any of y'all into old clocks? Does anyone recognize this thing, especially if otherwise? How 'bout an age estimate? Thanks for lookin'!

    Not a doorknob, of course...the end hole on mine is 0.113"; the side hole (also without threads) is ~0.057".

    No, of course not, I just added that pic as it was the first one I found that showed an allen bolt being used :)
