I imagine this would be Japanese, probably had a glass liner?

Nice, kard. Maybe Korean and to hold a (glass) teacup? A Korean take on a Russian teaglass holder? Korea has some Russian influence, the north borders on Russia.

Could be a fancy breakfast bowl. Some like this item originally held an internal glass bowl.

Chinese. The pic with the characters is upside down. The two characters are 其昌, and stand together as a saying (chengyu) "五世其昌" (wǔ shì qí chāng) and it's used in weddings as good wishes, roughly meaning, "May your posterity be wealthy and prosperous after/over the next five generations."

Chinese characters but I still say it's Japanese. Not too much Chinese deco-ish metal stuff out there and lots of Japanese.

Nice...:) Funny how it still works the other way up.
You are indeed correct though, many results show up for 其昌.
