Featured Asian Ginger Jar? Age?

I found this today at my local thrift. I think it's a ginger bowl/jar?
The reason I bought it was the small flea bite size intentions on the bottom, made me think it might be old? Is there any way to tell it's age or value?
Is that some kind of mark on the bottom? (Looks like a letter P or maybe a flag? Last photo)
It measures 9" wide x 8" high

What a story, plainly told...a translation will perhaps reveal clues about age. I like it, a lot...Thanks!
It seems to have had a cap, or cover, different from ginger jars I've seen, but wdik? Others will have better opinions.
Is the calligraphy and/or the design over- or under-glaze?

 

The caligraphy is most often poetry when applied this way.

I found same one I think (same measurements) and it has a top!
Any idea where to even start looking for a lid/top?
Link dates theirs as late 18th century- does mine compare?

They say late 19th. Yes, yours looks late 19th to me as well, the glaze has age.
Yours is missing a lid though, that affects the value, but it is still an attractive pot.
