I haven't a clue how a or where to even post as of yet to ask a question ?? I found this amongst my wanderings today the picture does it absolutely no justice- It's Beautiful , and silver Foil? There seems to be a mark of some sort ( in silver ) on the left bottom - I can't tell , it appears to be painted on the glass ? Any ideas All :)

    Ditto 777.
    But a few questions.
    1. Are you saying it is painted ON THE GLASS. The whole picture, or just part of it.
    2. Silver foil? Where?
    3. Japanese writing on the upper right. And also, but faded?, on the left of the vase?
    4. Koi are generally lethargic. These two seem active, as running from something.
    5. Basically it's the koi color I question. Many white ones, multi-colored, etc. But I'm not familiar with solid green?, gray? What color would you call them?
    6. What is the background on the bottom part? Are you saying it is of multi material?
Sorry I can't help with the markings.
Bottom line - I would have happily carried that home.

1: I can't figure out how to down size pictures on my phone & I am not near a computer, thus, the color doesn't even look like the picture . My daughter took it w her phone & sent it so I could get it on here..
2: It is under glass & almost appears 2-3 dimensional ..Like the vase & flowers are reverse painted on the glass or it's an elaborate reverse decal that was put on the glass ..As beneath , behind ? Is more writing , and leaves from the roses ...There is another Coi baby behind , it appears they are in the ocean on top of the waves. The whole scene is silver ( Foil)? Around the outer edges ..it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL.. I am generally not attracted to much Asian artwork, I couldn't walk away from this one ☺️ I will try to downsize the actual photos I took which capture the Beauty & dimensional aspect of it -

****UPDATE****I am Happy To announce Lol!!! I am pretty sure it is a Reverse painting I have yet to post True photos of this Beauty! Like I said , a picture speaks a thousand words and the the photos posted speak about 10 haha!! There is a piece of paper glued in the area where the silver ( Foil ) appearance is heavy , at the bottom of the vase ... I don't know much about reverse , it's just my assumption as I lifted the back of the frame , and the glass is painted . It's not a picture in a frame ...Isn't that a reverse? Please correct me , as I am learning ...Better pictures to follow this afternoon

I keep fancy goldfish and the grey ones are called "blue". Just added another to my tank in that color as a matter of fact. Koi colors would run the same gamut and I am sure use the same terms. As for the vigorous swimming I know in tattoos their actions have meanings although I do not know what they are.

This is probably from the Far East, but I'm not 100% convinced. It's that chop. It looks to me like a woman with her arms raised and a child standing before her. It doesn't look like Asiatic characters. Maybe one of our Sino speakers can comment on the inscriptions. Those do look convincing to me.

I found the names of two companies that made foil pictures: Dufex, and Kafka Industries. Kafka apparently did some floral still-lifes, but I didn't find this, and I haven't found a mark for either company.

    I do like it.

I honestly didn't see it until brought to attention! It's almost creepy to me Lol!! I had just lifted the back some , and am tempted to take it off , since I would like to reframe it - to photograph the opposite side ..

As said, I like it. Hence would be concerned about taking it apart IF it is part foil. Other item that bothers me are the oriental marks on the left side. They seem to be faded and/or are a reflection. What, if any, is their purpose in conjunction with the ones on the right?
Reverse painting is simply that. Painted on a piece of glass (the back side) with the intent of reversing the picture. Somewhat as showing in a mirror.
Koi, as far as I know, are not native to salt water.
Basically, GEG, you have me stumped on material to create the pic.

Thanks, 777, I've had many "goldfish" in a man made pond growing to over a foot, but never a solid color one. Neat.

I had already lifted a corner , the back is a piece of looks to be plywood , with rusty nails to hold it down , tapped into the side of the frame , on the bottom where it is faded looking , is a page to a Japanese ? Chinese ? Magazine or something , although it's not painted over it . The Koi's color is 2 toned light underside to a darker top half and all the scales , fins etc .. are etched in the mirrored, Foil ? Looking whatever it is ...An elderly lady had just taken it in at a thrift store and they were all buzzing about it , who at the store was going to take it home lol! Where might I take something like this , to have it looked at? Any advise would be helpful :) Thank you in Advance!!!

Ok I have nosed around the internet for a bit & have come across a few of these fish swimming in the ocean , on Japanese vases ..I am limited to reading from my phone @ the moment...I really don't have a clue what the difference between Japanese and Chinese art looks like .. this has never been my area of interest although am finding it fascinating..
