About 6 inches tall, seems to me like recent item, probably resin, but I'm not sure. it has a crack going up the back side, which may suggest wood? Please let me know if you think it is any better than decorative value, and what do you think the material is? Thank you!

Just my opinion, but this seems to be covered with the dreaded resin bubbles.

Thank you Kiko. One of the spots is a crack, and the other a little indent, don't look like bubbles up close. H cf4.JPG cf5.JPG cf6.JPG cf7.JPG ere are close-ups of the 2 spots you circled, and of the crack on the back side.

    I would agree with wood.

I could be wrong, but he seriously has that waxy resin look.....very much so in the first 4 images.....the rest with the thin 'cracks' do make me wonder?

Resin is so tough, I’ve never cast any that has cracked.
I’ve seen Chinese carvings like this, think its boxwood.

Resin...It’s horrible to work with, it’s absolutely stinks, the catalyst will blind you if you get it in your eyes. You really have to wear the same sort of mask car paint sprayers wear. If you don’t you can get so dizzy breathing it in. I’ve not used it for a couple of years now, maybe they have improved it but I’m not risking it.

I agree that the cracks make it look like wood. But why is the bottom so rough and ragged looking? Might it be remains of old glue?

I think it was probably stuck on to a base.

Can you carve away with a sharp knife on the base and see what happens?
