Went to an amazing estate sale Thursday.

Right as the person in front of me was checking out, he decided not to get this. I wasn't paying much attention but I think he said it was "part of something..." implying it was missing a piece. No doubt that is correct.

Former owner collected Roycroft items, among other things. Don't know if this would have been connected to Roycroft possibly.

One reason it caught my eye, a good friend is visiting in a few days, and she makes art glass boxes using old hardware as lids. Usually she incorporates things things like antique door handle panels, etc. Sells at art shows in Chicago. Don't know if she could use this, but was thinking HOW AWESOME would this be in one of her pieces, so for $5 grabbed it.

Didn't get a great shot of the back, but back is entirely smooth, nothing written. Little hammered pegs - front and back.

It is heavy stiff copper. 5" tall and weighs 1/2 a pound.

Any ideas what this came off of? Okay to repurpose? Thanks.

No idea if my friend will even be want to use it. It is pretty heavy compared to what she normally uses so may not work with her glass projects, but we'll see.

If it has value allowing someone to repair an antique or something, might not pop it in the craft drawer. Keep the thoughts coming. :)

Is it 2 sheets of copper riveted together and is the white material in the leaf grooves maybe a polishing paste? There is also a "line" of solder flow on the bottom edge. It could have been made during the arts and crafts period or purchased at a modern craft fair, there is no way to date the piece.

Maybe the face of a bookend? Don't think it is Roycroft but is probably of the period. If your friend doesn't want it, I do!

    JMHO.
don't tinker around but leave alone. might be putty that was used to fill the gaps.
    I'd research Newlyn and Keswick.

I'm with fid, leave it be!

High Art Nouveau, and a box lid. Newlyn/Keswick would be my first thought too. I think it's more likely Keswick: Newlyn stuff is more fishy and sea themed. Google images of Keswick copper boxes, you'll see what I mean, studs and all.

I'd use that as a paperweight, or find a wooden box base to sit it on.
