Hi, I have this brooch that I bought in a lot of stuff from Goodwill. I believe it is sterling (haven't tested yet) and it has an old C style clasp and long pin. Could this be an Art Nouveau piece or am I being fooled and this is newer? I have searched and searched but could find no markings. TIA!! nouveau1.jpg nouveau2.jpg 43828585_302703970561227_6258768824976277504_n.jpg

Looks like a student/hobbyist copy of something older, professionals rarely leave cut off sprue remnants on their pieces.

I see little hints here & there that the piece is plated brass. The hinge says she is much newer than the art nouveau period. I think she was commercially made, & she's fun, but definitely a long way from fine jewellery.

You are seeing yellow reflections from the yellow light I had shining on it.

I also think I see little areas of green oxidation (verdigris) on the back.

The circled area is the cut off casting sprue remnant.

It seems she is a copy of a 'Royal van Kempen & Begeer' fairy, inspired by a ca 1905 design by Catalan artist Lluís Masriera i Rosés.

Royal van Kempen & Begeer were an internationally renowned Dutch silver manufacturer. They started a jewellery line in the 19th century that was bought by GL Nederland in 1984.
Other branches of Royal van Kempen & Begeer were sold off separately, GL only bought the jewellery branch.
The acquisition included the original master molds. GL are now reproducing the old designs, which you can see in the Silver b3 link Debora posted.

No, no markings anywhere, even after I cleaned it.

Hinge is 20s or 30s, and that's a typically long pin for the hinge type, too. Looks pot metal. The hair is a bit of a giveaway to period, too.

Looks like someone made a casting of an original piece, this one is rough looking to me :(

Pic of it cleaned, yellow cast is from my light. It's rough, but fairly certain it is sterling, going to test to be sure. Solid silver through, doesn't feel like pot metal. 44054489_2213876572174052_8035825901771948032_n.jpg

It looks as though the maker of this pin has not been identified. There are links above with similar pins.
