  1. The Marshall House

The Marshall House The home of General George C. Marshall

Hey everyone, I have a hard one for you all!

This drawing hangs in the Marshall's living room and is original to the house. We don't know anything about it but we believe it depicts Gramercy Park in New York City, which is where Katherine Marshall's (wife of General Marshall) sister, Allene, lived.

At the bottom there are two things written in pencil. We believe the one on the right is the artists name but we can't read it! The one on the left says "Gramercy's Park Gate". Thanks for your help!

Here's an altered shot of the siggy:

This is an etching, a type pf intaglio print, not a drawing. It's nice.

This stuff is from the house of Gen. George Marshall of the post-WWII Marshall Plan? I must say he lived a very plebeian lifestyle for a person of his historic stature. I would expect some serious pieces along the diplomatic gift line.

I see "Alice S." Surname something close to Rumpole, but not.

Yes, General Marshall owned this home from 1941 to 1959. The house is filled with things you'd see in almost every other house of the 1950s! His wife was very frugal and they both were not very wealthy.

Marshall DOES have some very important diplomatic gifts in the home, in fact the two most prominent ones hang in the same room as this print! They include an oil painting of St. Petersburg gifted by Vyacheslav Molotov, and a painting by Winston Churchill of Morocco. He gave the painting to the Marshalls when they visited his home following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953.

  10. Aquitaine

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

A'cisi S. Remington looks like a possibility, not that I know if that's even a legitimate name.....been away for a couple of days.....although am not as sure of the last name.....looks more like it might end in ph!!
    OR......LAST name......how about Reis...something....john????????

The last name looks like a long one which makes me think Greek. The first name looks like it ends in "i". Could it be, "Aellai" and maybe a last name ending in "poulos"?
