This is a really pretty piece. It stands 6.5" tall and is 6.25" across the bowl. It has a wide rolled edge, making the bowl area kind of small. Does anyone recognize who the maker may be? I do think it is at least vintage (1930s-1940s); the bottom of the base does show wear and is highly polished where the pontil was. My searching has not been fruitful...your thoughts? Thanks as always!! IMG_1750[1].JPG IMG_1753[1].JPG IMG_1754[1].JPG

    Does this match?

"An absolutely stunning piece of American art glass designed by Frederick Carder for Steuben Glass c. 1920. It stands 6 5/8" tall, bowl diameter is 6 5/8", and the foot is just under 3 3/4" in diameter. No chips, cracks, or repairs. I have not been able to find a signature on this piece, but it is documented. Steuben signatures can be elusive, but many documented pieces are unsigned."

Maybe someone has a book and can verify or not.

IT SURE DOES!!!! Different colors and the dimensions are slightly different but otherwise it is a match! What search terms did you use? Thank you so much lauragarnet!!!

    Rolled rim compote. :joyful:

That pic came up in Google image search, not too far down the page. It was a link to Pinterest, but it was easy to find the original source, this time.

I hope the ID turns out to be correct. More searching or book info should help.

I think I use too many terms. I thought of using 'compote' but it's much too small to actually be one so I didn't. And I used rolled 'edge' not rim. My shortest search was 'art glass pedestal bowl rolled edge' which found nothing (also tried candy dish). I guess you need to boil it down to it's simplest description somehow. Thanks again!

I found a possible shape number:

Otherwise, all I can find are candle holders. But some book info came with those hits.

Thanks so much to everyone! I'll do some more research with the links you all provided. Maybe I'll figure out what 'Mouss.' refers to. Thanks again!

I can't believe you looked at all of those pages! I would have probably but thanks to you folks I didn't have to. I have sent an e-mail to the Carder Steuben Club hoping to get confirmation on the ID. I'll update when I hear back!

This color combination reminds me of Morgantown's Two Tone Genova glass from the 1920s. Not saying that's who made this, just the color is about the same. I looked in my Morgantown book but couldn't find any rolled rim compote examples in any color.

Whoah!!!! With that info I just found a sold one on eBay (is that how you identified this one or did you already know?). I still have mine...just couldn't let it go without knowing who made it and when; it's just too nice of a piece. I'll look carefully at the bottom for a sig; it looks like a very light acid etched one going by photos on ebay. Thanks so much @SteuartBenjamin!!!

Link to ebay piece - https://www.ebay.com/itm/H-P-Sincla...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The stem on mine is actually different; same colors though. Back when I had first posted this I did send pics to the Carder Steuben club as suggested by @desperate_fun. Here is their reply (sorry I did not update this back then, I was a little disappointed I guess; I have gotten over it though)...and they did suggest Sinclaire!

    "Thank you for your inquiry.

I do not think your compote is Steuben. I think it is more likely made by Sinclaire. While the Steuben line drawing is somewhat similar, I think the differences in the bottom of the stem are significant. Your compote has a very angular finish to the end of the stem while the Steuben drawing is much more rounded. This is in keeping with general Steuben design. Also, on a Steuben piece I would expect to see a more domed foot than appears to be present in your piece. Finally, recognizing the inherent problems associated with evaluating photographed colors on computer monitors, your compote appears similar to Steuben colors but not quite the same.

You asked about the "Mouss." reference. This is an abbreviation for the word Mousselene. That term is an out-dated term no longer used by collectors which essentially refers to optic ribs. Your stem is plain. There are no ribs."
