Found this unsigned dish/bowl today ... Does anyone recognize the shape or color combination as belonging to any particular glass manufacturer?

    About 4¾" (12cm) in diameter
    Almost 1½" (3.8cm) high
Colorless ground surrounded with reddish-orange crackle glass
Slight yellow/purple iridescence to both inside and outside
No etched or engraved sig. that I can see
    Has wear to base

(it's not lopsided ... I seem to list to the right when I take pictures)

The shape looks somewhat familiar to me, but the decor has me scratching my head.

I'll do some poking around and see if I can come up with something.

    Thanks!
I really don't know much about 'Art Glass', but it just looked so unusual that I had to bring it home with me :)

The shape is very old. You can find Roman glass bowls of essentially this shape. Not to say this glass is that old, but the shape is.

Looks like the crackle effect is in the mold and not done with heating and rapid cooling ling the typical crackle. I may be mold blown with the color on the outside of the ball or the color may have been applied later, Different. My 1st thought was stretch glass finish but I do not think so now.

Try searching Durand Moorish crackle, maybe, maybe not.

This was listed as such but the listing is gone now, I don't know if it was attributed to or actually marked.

Meschi in his Durand book shows a Moorish Crackle and a Crystal Crackle which look like this technique and some similar color but he does not show this this low bowl or spittoon shape that I could see. Yes it is made like regular crackle according to Mesdhi (still does not look like it to me but hands on would be different).

Yes, Thanks for showing that. I saw the same image while Googling last night ... frustrating that the pic remains while the description accompanying it disappears. It does look like the title mentioned Durand ... and seems that it was on eBay, with no way to know if the seller was guessing ... or hoping .... or knew what they were talking about.

I'm so glad that you mentioned this book, George Nesmith ... I was just looking to see if any copies of it ( Durand: The Man and His Glass ) were available to borrow from one of the libraries near here. Thank you for taking the time to look in yours for me. I was hoping that this shape would be shown in there somewhere. I appreciate that you took the time to look in yours for it.

I just picked up this book from my library yesterday - they were able to borrow one from across the state :)
Gaawwwwd there's some beautiful glass shown in there! - but sadly, as you already said, nothing (in any finish) in the shape of my bowl.

I may post photos of it to the FB site dedicated to collecting Art Glass.
