Hello all, happy Friday! Picked up this pretty Art Deco purse at an auction recently. I'm guessing 1920s-early 30s. I am hoping you can help me out with describing what it is exactly. Would it be considered "micro beading" or "mesh"? The technique almost looks like the more modern diamond point pictures that people do! Any info appreciated

    They're glass beads, no?

Gosh, I had to look under a loupe they are so tiny! Yes they are cold to the touch and appear to be glass beads. I guess micro beaded is the best description? Thanks Debora!

    Try loom-woven seed beads.

Look at bead loom pictures or bead weaving. This is a lot older and a lot better, but it's in the same vein. There are a few boardies who would have run the price up on you at that auction, had they been there. :p:p:p

Thanks I'll look those up! I paid $35 (CAD) so not too bad I don't think :)

I wonder if it's not missing fringe along the bottom.

The loss of fringe changes the proportion.

Wow, great find! My first thought was that it was missing fringe also... is there any evidence of them having been there?

Yes, I go with Deco era! Those gray beads look like they are "steel cut" beads. They would be cold to the touch also; but made of metal.

Hi, thanks for the info! There isn't actually evidence of missing fringe, the bottom is quite neat. I will take a picture of the bottom, perhaps you could advise? :)

Yes, certainly would have had a fringe. Lightly stitched on. No damage to remove.

Oh well, it's unfortunate that the fringe is gone, too much partying?! :hilarious: I still like the design though.
