    Hiya all,
    Happy New Year to you.

    Purchased this sweet little AD compact. No makers mark that I can find. It does have a Pan playing a flute, I have seen this image before but can't remember for the life of me the brand. Also I believe it is silver despite not having any marks. It smells like silver. I guess I will have to test it. Does anyone recognize the Pan symbol?

    Thanks Steve PXL_20240103_234933502_copy_907x1612.jpg PXL_20240103_235126237_copy_1612x907.jpg PXL_20240103_234959477_copy_907x1612.jpg PXL_20240103_235145225_copy_907x1612.jpg PXL_20240103_235015782_copy_907x1612.jpg

    What a lovely thing, and an interesting graphic!
    Keep in mind that the puff with the flute-playing Pan could easily be a replacement.

    I believe you are right. Looking at it again,.it probably is not a Pan. Just wish I could remember where I have seen the image.

    I'm wondering if it is "Patriotic" in some way with the star and unusual colours not that I would know about powdering my face.:bag:

    Most Hudnuts items were signed, I have had several in the past and all were marked. This is much better quality.

    Looks like Nijinsky in "l'Après-midi d'un faune" for the Ballets Russes.

    Yes, something like that for sure. Almost certain that puff is original to the piece. What an interesting compact! My first thought was that the compact might be Russian.

    I saw a couple in the one book I have about compacts that were ID'd as Hudnut & had similar finger-loops.

    Look for a PM. :happy::happy:

    @Sdcookie2

    I finally found the name of the book on compacts that your compact reminded me about. It is "American Compacts of the Art Deco Era" by Howard Melton & Michael A. Mont.

    [IMG]

    It is a fairly pricey book but if you collect them it is worth it. I paid $80.00 for a book on DeVilbiss perfume bottles & have never regretted it for even a moment. It is huge & covers the entire 50+ years of the company selling perfume bottles. :smug::smug:

    I also found a YouTube of one of the authors giving a talk somewhere. I haven't watched it but it might give you some information.
