Does anyone recognize the mark on the bottom of the pitcher?
    It is 3 7/8" tall.

These 3 pictures of the bottom were the best I could do.

Thanks for any & all advice or opinions!!:kiss:

    Hi Peggy,
Take a burning candle and place it close to the marks let it blacken with soot. Blow out the candle and place a piece of scotch tape over the blackened letters tape to a white card (like a note card). It should be easier to read.

when I see a bird pitcher my mind jumps to Czechoslovakian. I don't think that is what the marks says......but my mind is still going there.

Bdigger, mine as well... Czech first, then Japanese...

The problem is that I haven't seen an embossed mark like that from either place.

My last thought was Germany, but the word doesn't look quite right for that, either.

SOS, I kind sort of see that, too!

I doubt it says Grindley and I thought Czech too but no idea. This is the kind of mark I take photos of from every angle and in every type of light hoping for inspiration.

I will try this & let you know.

I even looked through my Czech books last night before I posted it, but no luck.

That's why there are 3 different photos of the same mark. :p I didn't post the other 10 that I took that didn't help either. :(

Off to locate a candle to use.

After working with the mark pic, I thing the word begins with "S" then 2 or 3 lower case letters like rie, rin, rei,... followed with possibly something like "dley," dlok." Then again the first letter in my edited versions may be a "G" written in script, , making the word Grindley! My edited versions are not much better than the pic posted. Greg's suggestions is certainly worth doing.

When I googled Grindly Bird Pitchers.......I thought I had found it. Turns out your pictures already show in that search.

Susan - I tried Greg's suggestion & I swear it does look like it says Grindley, but in Googling their marks I did not see any like this one.

I also tried companies starting with a D & a B with out any luck. I did look through Kovels for anything with an S without any luck either. :(

I saw the same thing. :hilarious: Well at least we know we are out there for people to find.:happy:
