hi guys , need some help with a new acquisition. Does anyone have any info on umberto Stiaccini ? All I can find out is he was an Italian Sculptor from late 19th early 20th century. The nude we have bought has his signature on the base and is stunning. We really love her but would love to know more about the artist. There is very little on the net. Any help would be great

I can confirm there is very little on the net other than past auction results. Must be the only person from this period who does not have a Wiki entry. I searched for Italian language results. Niente. This is quite something though.

I really wish I could post a pic. I have seen many Art Deco bronzes but never a sculpture of this detail. She really is lovely. Quite different from the above picture. I will see if I can figure out how to reduce photo file size

That's a seriously nice piece of carving. It's amazing that her beads haven't broken after all these years. Alabaster can be a bit fragile.

Thanks. Photos really do not do her justice. Saw her at Antiques fair in Harrogate over the weekend and fell in love. She has come from France but that’s all I know. Really want to find out more if possible.

    She is absolutely beautiful.
Some of her fingers look like they have been repaired, but she is still gorgeous.

I know what you mean about fingers although on close inspection I really don’t think so.

Is the artists name on the piece somewhere? I just wondered how you know who made it.

Nonetheless, I think the 2 of them employed the same model. She has very distinctive feet with an unusually short big toe.

A longer second toe was a Roman aesthetic standard.

I know. They also showed bare feet with the separation between big & second toe caused by the habitual wearing of sandals. The lovely foot above (Athena?) does not have as large a difference in length of the 2 toes as do the left feet of the 2 Stiaccini nudes. My point was really that it looks to me like the same foot was the model for both, based on the extremely short big toes.
