Hello everyone. This is not normal territory for me and to be honest I don't know if these should be here or on the Ephemera thread but they are art so here goes! I have a rectangular tin with a Larsson print on the lid. Inside are these cardboard prints, about 8½" by 5½". There are 6 by Carl Olof Larsson and 7 by Sulamith Wulfing. My biggest question is what these were for, trading, to frame, to educate? They were printed by Verkerke Reprodukties in Holland. When would be nice to know as well. I will be listing these or placing them in a store so I'd just like to know as much as I can about them first. I will apologize right now for the blurry ones, I couldn't tell they were blurry until I loaded them on here, the contrast and detail are hard to see when they're small.

First the Wulfing pictures: "FALLING LEAF"

    Then the Larsson pictures:

    "BEDROOM"

    "BIRTHDAY MORNING"
    DSCN0015.JPG

    "RECOVERY"

    "FISHING"

Anything anyone can tell me about these will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks, everyone! Linda

I wouldn't think so, Johnny. They're on fairly thick cardboard. @Debora thanks for that link, it's interesting.

IMO for selling the re-printer is of no importance. seems to me that this company took a chance in the 60s when the copyrights were running out and a certain interest for Krishnamurti and other people of interest were big.
Wülfing pictures show up quite often on German fleamarkets in different sizes. and sometimes on Rosenthal dishes.

Maybe the first set were meant for something esoteric.
The second could be a set sold as art cards in a box.

If you want to sell them I would mention both the artists and Verkerke. Verkerke posters are collectible now, and there may also be interest in their cards.

Engel Verkerke became well-known for his work as a printer for the Dutch Resistance. Even though these were printed long after WWII, it could be good to sell them now, with the 75 years liberty commemorations and celebrations.

Calendars of Carl Larsson's work are quite popular. As are his framed prints, metal trays, ceramic tiles, etc.

His paintings are so sweet and down home in style.

I have some of what I've mentioned, and I love them.

What your cards were used for, I do not know. I don't think I've ever come across them. I get the calendars, etc. at the Scandi faire each year at Christmas time.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I've got an old book about Sulamith Wülfing -- mostly pictures. The Fantastic Art of Sulamith Wülfing (copyright 1978)-- Her artwork often did have light brown or tan tones, but I'm wondering if colors in some of the images on these cards have deteriorated a bit?

Thinking of your cards, could they be intended for the table.....hot food mats? If they are heavily coated, they might be just that.

Did a little more digging. These are called wishing cards, although I have no clue why. And these all come from a group or series that are done in almost a monotone with rather ghostly images. I don't think they are faded or deteriorated as I have found some of the same images with the same rather ethereal looking coloring. I'm thinking I will offer them as a group and the Larsson cards the same way. I believe these were printed in 1960. On the back under Verkerke Reprodukties and the address they say Printed in Holland/60. We'll see where they land. Oh, with new focused photos of course! Thanks for the help everyone.

Hello - The Sulamith Wulfing cards are quite rare and are lithograph prints. I have one! Not sure when they were printed as Verkerke took on the printing of her work in the 1970's. Hope this helps! David.
