    Hi there!

Bought these last year. Minor painters. Not amateur ones, just minor ones. Still i like them.
The first one is from the 1930's or 40's, payed 63 euros (74 USD) for it.
The second one is from 1943, payed 47 euros (55 USD) for it.

My family members say these are horrible and very ugly.:blackeye: What do you think? ;)

I rather like them. Frames are beautiful.

Ditto. I'm a sucker for those driftin' & dreamin' scenes.

    :)

I like the second one. The first one ...... much less so and think it the more amateur of the two. I am not so crazy about the frames but that may just be personal taste. Depending on the house decor, they might fit in quite well.

Every bit as bad as Maxfield Parrish

The 2nd is nice , with a play on light and shadow.
The frames would look better with a 19th cent portrait....here they are over the top and take away from the works.

The treatment on the 1st frame is hideous...
was it in a fire ????

Nonono! That first frame is total eye candy!! I would be happy to have it on the wall even if nothing was in it!

Compared to many of the pieces posted here, both paintings are masterpieces.

LOL!!! How true! Which is partly the reason I collect odd prints. I have only two paintings: one by a friend, and my "semi-primitive" Hudson river scene. Of my prints, only three are ever recognized (or four, if the viewer is from Philadelphia). I have a Joshua Reynolds which, since the beginning of eBay, I have never seen there. Also a delightful Alken, which I have never seen anywhere.

I don't have much money to spend and it's not easy to get really good paintings for $50-80. They often ask more for the frame alone! So it's cheaper to buy paintings with frames. So you either get a beautiful frame with an ugly painting or an average painting with an ugly frame...

These are from the second painter, but the paintings are not mine.

I like the one you have better than either of these. I get a Thomas Kinkade vibe from these two..... particularly the second one.

I don't buy this. You can get some pretty good art in that price range. It will not be a masterpiece but you can get some good art by known painters. I think you have done reasonably well with these. As said above, these are masterpieces compared to a lot of what is shown here. Are these by listed artists?...... not that it really matters.

The first one is from a listed painter, the other 3 comes from someone who worked in the first half of the 1900's, but i couldn't find any info on him. I don't even know his full name. He only used his surname as a signature.
He was probably a minor painter or maybe a talented amateur.

Here's another one that my family hate.
    It's a big one (75 x 105 cm). Obviously an amateur painting.
1920's or 30's. The frame is the original one.
A painting like this coupled with this black frame is a little bit morbid. Still i like it somehow.
It costed €55. This big, antique frame worths this price alone, so i got the painting for free... :blackalien:

That's not bad.....dark and gloomy ....but not bad.
    The frame is nice too.

I get a decorative sofa painting vibe from this one. Better than a lot but seems to have been produced for decorative value and size. I rather like the darkness of this but I tend to like more mysterious and gloomy paintings.

This was in a junk lot at auction. I've seen these types done by guys on TV in a matter of minutes.

Still looks fine on my wall.

This is an original pencil by a book illustrator.

I guess I should have used flash. Excellent quality but his name doesn't sell. I had some woodcocks done by him in a sketchpad that surprised me at auction. They weren't signed. He actually did them on a hunting trip.

This mass produced print junk sells daily for up to $500.

Where? I pass this type of stuff by regularly. I know it can be pricey when new but have seen little interest on the secondary market.

No, there isn't really a secondary market. But the mall stores are making a killing. At the auctions it usually tops out at $35-40.
