Are these Japanese vases? Are they old? Are they worth something?

I have two vases which I believed to be japanese? They are about 2ft high (60cm). But I don't know of these are genuinely old or newish. They seem to have some quality to it. Are they any good?

I really like these, the faces and hair and beards etc are well painted.
Others will be along to give you info.

A few questions - do the vases ring like porcelain when you tap them, or thud like lower fired pottery? Is there any craquelure/crackle in the glaze (it might be visible in the undecorated areas, or on the bottom). It is hard to tell from the photos, but are there raised areas in the decoration (moriage) or is it smooth?
