Are these actually designed for Sterno?

I found these while out antiquing recently. I originally thought they might be part of a lamp / lighting fixture of some sort, then I decided to see if a can of sterno fit... and voila!
Seriously though, if anyone know what these were originally used for I would appreciate any information. Bavarian Camping Stove.jpg Bavarian Camping Stove a.jpg Bavarian Camping Stove b.jpg

Design motif looks Swiss. Perhaps they're for individual fondue bowls.

I was also thinking Swiss or Bavarian. It does seem appropriately sized for a fondue pot. I was originally thinking camp stove, but the bulk of the pieces make them impractical unless you are bringing a pack mule. I'll pursue that line of inquiry. Thanks Debora!
