Are these 18th or 19th century brass candlesticks?

They weigh about 1,2kg each (2.6 lbs) and
are slightly over 30cm (12.5 inches) tall.

I don't have pictures of the base of the candlesticks yet.

They are really cheap and the seller says they were bought in an auction at some time.

They look similar to 18th century candlesticks to me.. but are they?

    Should I buy them?

Depends - If they are really inexpensive:

    Do you like them?
Do you really care if they are old or not?
If you are a seller, - can you double your money?

With out seeing the base, we can't determine if they are old or not. Even after seeing the base, we may not be able to tell.

Have you looked for any foundry marks?

    Adding:
They look like nice classic candlesticks.

If you check Sotheby's you will find several that have sold over $3,000.

I have a pair very similar to yours that I probably should have sold 40 - 50 years ago. They were sent to my family from relatives in Scotland as a baby gift in 1899. Unusual but neat idea.

Bluntly, they are much nicer and in considerably better condition than your pictures show. I believe I would be fortunate to get $50.00 for them.

Answer: if for your own use, maybe OK at $20 +-. For resale, I'd have to say skip it.

I've seen a number of identical Korean and Indian ones at the thrift store recently

I wouldn't pay more than scrap without seeing something more

The last ones posted look ca. 2000, two-piece, machine-made sticks. Not sure what else could be said, they could have been made about anywhere.
